SPY: The 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate (S 205) on its first journey in the wild

The new C-Class Limousine, internally badged W 205, will be followed in the second part of 2014 by the estate body variant, baring the code S 205. The practical C-Class will overtake its sedan sibling by a few centimeters and thus will offer more boot space and enhanced practicality.

The future C-Class T-Modell, as this is the official German title for the wagon variant, will boast an increased luggage capacity of over 500 litres with the rear seats unfolded. If those are folded, the loading area of the boot becomes perfectly horizontal up to the front seats and extends up to around 2,000 litres, which is a quite a lot for a mid-sized premium limousine. Multiple storage compartments and most likely an intelligent system that can modify the interior layout as well as the trunk in various, practical ways will be offered. Visually, the estate will be distinguished by the newly designed rear end, which features horizontally-positioned lights shapes like thin bars, which also somehow resemble the theme proposed by the Concept S-Class Coupe at the IAA Frankfurt 2013 (see HERE).

The powertrain will consist mainly of the new MRA rear-driven platform, with the choice of 4MATIC for maximum stability and traction. The new 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox will be as well available for the high-end variants. In what powerplants are concerned, the new C-Class will debut a new, Renault-co-developed diesel unit boasting a 4-cylinder architecture, turbocharging and 130 hp. Further on, there will three more diesel engines with a cylinder displacement of 2.2 litres, which are rated at 170 hp, 204 hp and 231 hp. On the petrol side, the 1.6-litre starting model produces 156 hp. Its bigger brother, the 2.0-litre unit, will be offered in three power stages: 184 hp, 211 hp and 252 hp. The high-end model will be C 400 boasting the all new 3.0-litre direct injection, twin-turbo V6 powerplant cranking out 333 hp.
